History
The Barnard Street Dance was a beloved community event in Barnard that ran 21 years from 1994 to 2015. Former General Store owners Carolyn Dicicco and Kim Furlong organized early dances, which featured a line-up of local musicians with the popular "Jeanne and The High-tops" headlining. The party took over the porch and street in front of the Barnard General Store, and people of all ages enjoyed the lively town center, beautiful Silver Lake, and music from talented local musicians.
The event came to an end in 2015, due to safety concerns following an accident during the event. In 2022, we brought it back with the help of Barnard Rec, but instead to the parking lot in front of the Barnard Town Hall which offers plenty of level space, paved and grassy, to dance worry-free.
Barnard Street Dance is a free, family-friendly event celebrating summer time and our beautiful community!
Schedule
2pm - Boat Race at Silver Lake State Park with the Silver Lake Association - bring your own kayak, canoe, SUP or paddle boat or borrow one from the park! (Racers - get there by 1:45pm!)
3-8pm - Activities outdoors at Barnard Town Hall
- Family games with the Barnard Rec
- Face Painting & art projects with BarnArts
- Raffles for prize baskets with four themes of local goodies:
- 6:30 - Kids raffle basket drawing
- 8pm - 3 raffle basket drawings for the Art, Food, and Drink baskets
3-8pm - Food vendors open for business at Barnard Town Hall including:
- Moon & Stars - arepas & empanadas
- Panou - Haitian plates with: chicken, beans, rice & plantains
- Kiss the Cow - organic ice cream
- BarnArts drink stand (with Street Dance reusable cups!) - Carin’s Kombucha, Maple Lemonade, iced herbal tea, iced black tea, water
3pm - Bow Thayer’s Choirs of Aether (improvisational rock)
5pm - Contra Dance with music by Blind Squirrel and caller Kevin Donohue
7pm - Billy Wylder (art-rock)
