Music Program Manager

Location: A combination of flexible/remote and on site work in Barnard, VT and surrounding area.

Job Dates: Year-round starting Sept or Oct, 2026

Hours: 16 hr a week (.4) average year-round, with some ebb and flow weekly and seasonally. Must be available in-person Thursdays from 4-9pm late May thru September to facilitate Feast & Field Music Series in addition to other music events as scheduled.

BarnArts Music Program Manager actively coordinates the primary aspects of BarnArts music programming: Feast & Field Music Series, biannual Global Music Residency, and other BarnArts music programming, including workshops for visiting artists and music line-ups for Masquerade Jazz & Funk Winter Music Carnival (Feb/Mar) and Barnard Street Dance (late August). Most programming is complete for 2026, but 2027 programming will be in process by late fall. Responsibilities will include regularly researching and scheduling artists and supporting BarnArts events, such as two December holiday events and Race Around the Lake in May. This position also manages the Facebook and Instagram accounts for BarnArts with support from the Communication & Project Manager. The Music Program Manager reports to the Executive Director and coordinates with other staff and event teams to support fundraising, programming, and events across the organization.

Detail:

  • Represent BarnArts Feast & Field Music Series on site in Barnard (late May-Sept) which includes greeting bands & promoting BarnArts through announcements and managing a BarnArts table/booth.

  • Feast & Field planning efforts include:

    • Supporting BarnArts’ Sound Engineer and coordinating sound needs & equipment

    • Managing potential school & community workshops

    • Organizing musician housing, as needed

    • Collaborating with Feast & Field hosts and local partners

    • Organizing Feast & Field partnership planning meetings, taking notes at meetings, and following up on outcomes

  • Assist in coordinating special music events, including Barnard Street Dance in August and Masquerade Jazz & Funk Winter Carnival in Feb/March, and provide on-site event support in collaboration with other staff.

  • Work on-site as event staff for Holiday Cabaret (12/5) & Winter Carols (12/19) and other events.

  • Lead all booking efforts, beginning with 2027 season. Includes taking inquiries year-round as well as networking with agents, managers, artists and other presenters and attending NEFA Idea Swap on Oct 29 and possibly other presenter conferences/meetings

  • Coordinate Spring & Fall Global Music Residencies, bringing international artists to the area for 5-10 days of programming, including community and school workshops and public performances.

    • Fall 2026 residency is Oct 6-11 with Celtic harpist Áine Minogue.

    • Spring 2027 residency is March 22-27 with La Banda Morisca, a 6-piece Andalusian band

  • Coordinate school & community workshops year-round through use of F&F and Masquerade artists. This includes:

    • the establishment and supporting of relationships with local schools and various community organizations to spread the reach of workshops

    • collaborating with local partners such as other arts organizations and groups.

  • Accompany visiting artists to school and community workshops.

  • Support fundraising for all music programs by seeking sponsorships and grants.

  • Support publicity for music events by collecting and organizing performer bios and media in a timely manner.

  • Support the design, creation and distribution of music programming promotional materials.

  • Support BarnArts ongoing mission through promotion of all of BarnArts events and fundraising needs.

Assistants: Back Stage/Costume/Tech Helpers

Assistant Director, Assistant Stage Manager and Assistant Designers help prepare everything before the production, including costumes, props, scenery, lighting and sound. and work with Stage Manager or Designers during the performances.

Required Experience: Experience is appreciated but not required. We have had great success with anyone who loves theater and wants to be part of our community!
